The Velo Schils Cycling Project Mens Elite- Womens Elite- Social/Club Velo Schils Interbike RT was founded in 1997 and has progressed throughout the years. Created from the Velo Schils – Interbike shop in Marks Tey, Colchester,with a strong Belgium connection from ex-professional cyclist Patrick Schils. The team quickly established a partnership with the cycling legend Eddy Merckx, before progressing to partner with the Lotto Cycling Team forming one of the best youth cycling setups in Europe, winning races all across the globe –helping to nurture some of the biggest talents in cycling. In recent years the team has developed into a large club setup with over 150 members. Recently the cycling team has been competing in a range of international, professional and semi -professional races fielding both a male and female team. 2016 saw Velo Schils include a team in the women’s Matrix Tour Series – a series of town centre races infront of a large crowd, with highlights on ITV4. The men’s elite team competed in semi-professional elite races in Martinique, Belgium, Austria, France. The Velo Schils Interbike mens and womens team both spent the year competing races nationwide and at a regional level in many disciplines – Road, Track, Cyclo-cross, MTB, Time-Trials,Triathlon and Hill Climbs (including becoming National Champion). The large contingent of club riders also compete in many local events including sportives and charity rides all across Europe. The team’s ethos is to race at the highest level possible whether that is in the UK or abroad which is where a large proportion of the budget will go into enabling this. These races provide the best opportunity to display your brands logos etc as these races have the media’s attention across the region, nationally and internationally.
